Official Plan Our Future City

As Mississauga continues to evolve, so does our Official Plan.

The City’s Official Plan policies address important parts of city-building that affect everyone who lives and works in Mississauga, including transportation, housing, culture and heritage, the environment, and the economy.

The Official Plan addresses things like:

  • where housing, industry, offices, shops, and roads should go
  • which services and amenities (e.g. parks, schools, transit) are needed and where they will be located
  • what parts of the city will be the focus for growth and what it will look like
  • what must be considered for growth and development

We’re reviewing the existing Official Plan to ensure it reflects the changing needs, opportunities and aspirations of our city. The review process will:

  • Join Us! Virtual Open House: Transportation, Cultural Heritage, Economy and Employment Areas

    The City will be hosting a virtual drop in open house to provide an opportunity for the public to comment on the second bundle of draft policies for the topic areas, transportation, cultural heritage, and the economy and employment areas. Draft policies will be posted on May 30 for review and comment prior to the June 8 virtual open house.

    This meeting will be held in person and online. Advance registration is required to make a verbal submission at the meeting virtually.     Participate Virtually

    Advance registration is required to participate and/or make comment virtually at the public meeting. Please email deputations.presentations@mississauga.ca no later than Friday at 4:00 p.m. prior to the meeting date. Any materials you wish to show the Committee during your presentation must be provided as an attachment to the email. Links to cloud services will not be accepted. You will be provided with directions on how to participate from Clerks' staff.

    Residents without access to the internet can participate and/or make comment in the meeting via telephone. To register, please call Megan Piercey at 905-615-3200 ext. 4915 no later than Friday at 4:00 p.m. prior to the meeting date. You must provide your name, phone number, and application number if you wish to speak to the Committee. You will be provided with directions on how to participate from Clerks' staff.

    On June 15, 17, and 23, we held three virtual community meetings on the Official Plan Review to discuss “What are the priorities for the environment and transportation”, “Where will major growth go”, and “How can we increase housing choices in our neighbourhoods”. We shared draft policy directions for the Official Plan Review and explored your ideas on housing options.   • Phase 2 Community Engagement Feedback Summary – Now Available

    Thank you to everyone that participated throughout Phase 2 of the Official Plan Review engagement to confirm policy priorities for the Official Plan! Please see the Feedback Summary.

    On March 8, 2021, the City’s Planning and Development Committee will be considering a staff report that summarizes the feedback received and assesses how this feedback compares to proposed policy priorities for the new Official Plan.

    At our next round of engagement, we will seek your ideas on draft policy directions. This engagement will be held in the Spring of 2021.
