Port Credit Heritage Conservation District Update

Get Involved

The City enacted the Old Port Credit Village Heritage Conservation District (HCD) Plan in 2004. The plan guides physical changes to the area over time to ensure that modifications contribute to the area’s special character. We are revisiting the plan to ensure that it aligns with current legislation, best heritage principles and practices, and to ensure that it adequately preserves the village character, and reflects the community interests for a carefully managed change process.

The City has engaged George Robb Architect; MHBC Planners, Urban Design & Landscape Architecture; Wendy Shearer Landscape Architect; and Historic Horizon Inc. to update the plan and engage with residents in Port Credit to ensure there is ample opportunity for discussion and direct input.

Fall 2017 Update

The Old Port Credit Village Heritage Conservation District (HCD) Plan Update Issues Analysis report is complete. It can be accessed here. The draft revised HCD plan is underway. It will be presented on Monday, November 20th at Clarke Memorial Hall, 161 Lakeshore Road West. There will be an Open House from 6 to 7 p.m. and presentation at 7 p.m., followed by Q&A. We hope to see you there.

  • Why are we preserving homes that were not historically taken care of and are sick inside? What consideration has been given to the financial burden imposed on people to keep these houses? Zoning needs to be reflective of the geomorphic realities of the south part of the city including the high water table that erodes the foundation infrastructure of the homes. As a south resident, I have no issues with tearing down the past and building modern structures including those with high ceilings and what some people consider to be "monster homes". This is coming from someone who lives in a little bungalow that nearly bankrupted me to fix when I moved into it 6 years ago and still suffers from some other issues that are cost prohibitive to repair at this time. Its time to let go and create a modern community.
