Smart City Policy

About Smart City

“Smart City” describes how cities around the world are using data, technology and innovation to transform and modernize their services. By working closely with community partners, businesses and industry, Smart Cities build vital connections to foster open government, make data more accessible and enable research-based decisions.

The overall goal is to create more liveable, workable and sustainable communities.

Why is being a Smart City important?

A Smart City uses data and communication technologies to create sustainable economic development, increase operational efficiency, improve the quality of government services and make improvements to community life. Mississauga is committed to engaging the community, citizens and industry leaders in our Smart City journey.

About Smart City Policy

The City of Mississauga is developing a policy that will guide and control how the City introduces and uses new technologies citywide to improve quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors – a Smart City for Everybody.

An action of the Smart City Master Plan, the goal of the Smart City Policy is to protect public privacy, freedom and democracy, addressing the demand for data privacy and security.

We are taking a citizen-centred approach to creating the Smart City Policy, and we want to hear from you.
