Uptown Node Character Area - Official Plan Amendment

About the project

The Uptown Node is centered on the intersection of Hurontario Street and Eglinton Avenue. The area is experiencing great change with a soon-to-be built Hurontario Light Rail Transit (LRT) stop and many new mixed-use buildings on the horizon. It is projected that the population of the Uptown Node could increase from 12,300 to 30,000 people based on current and upcoming development activity.

The City is developing policies to guide and manage growth in the Uptown Node character area. This will be approached through an Official Plan Amendment (OPA). It will be important to bring about a healthy, connected and complete community that can meet the needs of people that live, work and play there.

To ensure that the Uptown Node can grow into a sustainable and vibrant community, the proposed policies will look to:

  • Establish an urban, fine-grain road network
  • Secure land for parks and playgrounds
  • Retain retail and office functions
  • Provide for affordable housing opportunities

Final policy recommendations will be considered by the Planning and Development Committee on November 23, 2020.

For more information, please see the Uptown Node Capacity Review – Information Report (July 27, 2020) and the Uptown Node Map.

COVID-19 Community Engagement Update: While we continue to respond to this pandemic, we are working hard to deliver essential services and projects to keep our City moving and safe. While we can’t connect in-person at this time, we still want to connect! Please find on this site the ways you can keep updated on this project’s progress and share your opinions and ideas.
