In 2020, City Council approved a temporary patio program to allow restaurants to operate seasonal patios. As the expiration date for this temporary program approaches (the end of 2023), we are crafting a new by-law to ensure that seasonal outdoor patios become an automatic opportunity for restaurants moving forward. Please watch the video to learn more about the draft recommendations. If you have any questions, please contact Trista James, the project lead. The Temporary Outdoor Patio Program was introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic to support the restaurant industry in Mississauga. This program allowed restaurants to have additional outdoor seating areas, known as patios. We understand that these patios have become a beloved part of our city's dining experience, creating a lively and vibrant atmosphere. City staff will be preparing a report to make recommendations for the Temporary Outdoor Patio Program to be a seasonal experience for our city.
That's where you come in!
We value your feedback and want to hear about your experiences with outdoor patios in Mississauga. Whether you’re a restaurant owner – or patron – we want to hear from you! Your opinion matters to us, and we want to ensure that the regulations we establish reflect the needs and desires of our community.
We will be accepting feedback until October 6, 2023, so please take the time to share your thoughts and help shape the future of seasonal outdoor patios in Mississauga. For more information, make sure to visit the Beyond Indoor Dining project website.
The project will be seeking industry and stakeholder input. A public and restaurant owner survey will be shared to get feedback on priorities for seasonal patios.
