Urban Agriculture Strategy
The City of Mississauga’s Parks, Forestry & Environment Division is working towards creating an urban agriculture strategy that will help identify the City’s role in supporting Corporate and community efforts to increase urban-scale food production across Mississauga.
Through the strategy, the City of Mississauga will work to encourage healthier lifestyles, empower the community to learn new skills about growing and harvesting produce and support local businesses with ties to urban agriculture.

Urban Hen Program Public Engagement
As part of the consultations underway for the development of an Urban Agriculture Strategy, the City of Mississauga is launched a public engagement campaign to determine the receptiveness of a city-wide Urban Hen Program.

Urban Hen Pilot Program Mississauga City Council approved a small pilot program of 10 households in wards 3, 5 and 6. Read the news release.

Include urban agriculture as part of every new community centre
Build facilities to include: - Bee Houses - Roof top meadow with natural pollinators - Roof top veggie garden - these can be volunteer maintained and can be used to produce fresh veggies for food banks. - Provide a tax incentive to those who grow produce at home.

Educate people on and/or subsidize hydroponics systems to enable everyone, especially low income families to grow and consume fresh and healthy fruits and vegetables year round.

In addition to community centres/public areas I think apartment buildings should also have some type of urban agriculture set up.

Seek innovative building designs, building applications and building materials for energy resuse
