Official Plan Review
As Mississauga continues to evolve, so does our Official Plan.
Mississauga’s Official Plan policies address important parts of city-building shape our city, including transportation, housing, culture and heritage, the environment, and the economy.
The Official Plan addresses things like:
- where housing, industry, offices, shops, and roads should go
- which services and amenities (e.g. parks, schools, transit) are needed and where they will be located
- what parts of the city will be the focus for growth and what it will look like
- what must be considered for growth and development

Seniors housing: more variety/options of “not for profit” seniors accommodation needed. Example: “sheltered housing” - similar to UK
More “not for profit “ seniors accommodation / retirement residences needed. Self supporting.

For the time of the pandemic make public transit free.
For frontline workers cause it could be hard for some of them to get to there work so that if something that can be done.

Lighting for bike trails
The city has a nice bicycle trail plan. This plan includes off road trails. We should plan appropriate lighting along these trails. In fact a requirement to light all city pedestrian paths would be a nice goal.

Following up with Fines
Just a small example is that there are many littering, loitering, speeding and trespassing fines, and there are no security measures or cameras to catch the people who do these things. Implementing cameras, speed scanners on roads, address trespassing and loitering as a more serious problems can be ways to help finding people who need to be fined and limiting the amount of these things.

Try growing more trees around the community and start cleaning up litter that is ending up on the streets.

City of Mississauga staff present on the new draft Official Plan during the open house meetings the last week of February.
The Official Plan guides how the City will grow and develop, as required by the Ontario Planning Act. The goals and policies of this proposed new Official Plan are intended to be achieved by 2051.

To date, staff have shared two sets of updated Official Plan draft policies with the community. The third and final set of policies – Bundle 3 – includes housing and land use policies that outline where the city will grow, enable more housing types in neighbourhoods, promote housing affordability and rental protection, update employment area policies and more.

The City of Mississauga hosted a virtual drop in open house for the Official Plan Review to provide an opportunity for the public to comment on the second bundle of draft policies for the topic areas of transportation, cultural heritage, and the economy and employment areas. Draft policies for bundle two are posted for your review an comment. Thank you for your on going participation!
